China Orphanage
We support the children in an orphanage in China in many ways. Several times during the year, we pay for a child to receive life-altering cleft palette surgery. The operation is performed on children when they are very young. The children and their parents are very appreciative for this opportunity.
Our prayer shawl knitters group meets on Monday mornings from 10:30 a.m. – Noon. One of our ongoing projects is knitting hats and sweaters for children in the China Orphanage. This year we sent 42 blankets, 89 sweaters, 15 pairs of booties, and 91 hats to the children. A big THANK YOU to all the St Mark members who knitted or crocheted items for the China orphanage. The cost to mail these items is higher than we anticipated. If you would like to make a donation toward the shipping, please mark your envelope China Orphanage: Postage.
Below are some pictures of the children in the orphanage wearing the hats and sweaters we sent to them.
If you knit or crochet and would like to join us, please drop by on Monday mornings, 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon for fellowship and crafting. In addition to our support of the China Orphanage, other projects have included making items for homeless women, vets at the VA Center in Hampton, the children at the Refugio in Ecuador, the St Mark Christmas Glove/Mitten tree, and this year we made blankets for infants who are baptized at St Mark. We meet in the Library. Come and join in the fun. If you do not knit or crochet, but would like to learn, we can teach you.
